Shannon has published stories in more than 50 anthologies and magazines, and in her own collections. Shannon has an upcoming horror/dark fantasy novel, "Wendigo Nights", which features a Native American spirit. My own knowledge of the Wendigo myth mostly comes from a story in Alvin Schwartz's "Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark", a children’s book of scary folk tales that a movie was based on back in 2019. The story from that book, "The Wendigo", involves an invisible creature that drags its victims until they burn up into ashes. Photo Credit: Pixabay   As a science fiction writer, I’ve always had a fascination with the prehistoric. It’s often been the subject of pulp fiction and b movies and so, more often than not, has been romanticized with human and dinosaur existing side by side, almost never harmoniously. Such stories can be considered what we now call alternative historic fiction, or in this case alternative pre historic fiction. This is because science has proven that humans did not come along until millions of years after the dinosaurs went extinct. Yet, there are a lot of great books and films out there that depict early humans in a much more realistic manner than the pulps and b films. For example, there’s Jean Auel’s novel, “The Clan of the Cave Bear”, which was adapted into a 1986 film. There’s also Jacqui Murray’s “Dawn of Humanity” series of books, the latest of which is “Laws of Nature”. Last week I said I would take a break from talking about my next book. By now that book probably seems to be a bunch’a bull to you since I keep putting off the release date. But it is with great pleasure to have my guest blogger, L.G. Keltner, talk about her Self-Help 101 series of novellas of which two are already out. Credit: L.G. Keltner What inspired you to write the Self-Help 101 series? I was inspired to write the first novella in the series, Self-Help 101 or: How I Learned to Take Over the World Through Tolerating My Family courtesy of an odd combination of factors.   I’d been contemplating the nature of self-help books, and I listened to the Pinky and the Brain theme song.  I only intended to write one novella, but then my husband said the fateful words.  “You could make a series out of this.  Each book takes place on a different holiday.  Imagine doing the 4th of July.”  Within a minute, I knew I’d dedicated myself to this...
