Because it came up so quickly, I’m going to again postpone the Book-To-Movie  review for the month until next weekend. I know, it seems like I’ve been doing this regularly since the pandemic started in March (at least that’s when it started for my area). Well, as the news media outlets have been recently hollering about society as a whole, this is the new norm. I tried getting a Book-To-Movie together for this weekend but didn’t come up with anything until Thursday in which I viewed the movie adaptation that evening and then read the short story original only yesterday. I’m not going to tell you what the story or its movie adaptation is, though. To find out you will have to tune in here next week. At Amazon It’s frustrating when you’re trying to look for that special holiday gift for that friend or relative who’s such an avid science fiction/fantasy reader that he or she already has nearly every book on the genre’s shelves in most bookstores. The shelves in these stores aren’t big enough to hold many rare editions of certain books in the speculative genre such as an author’s work that has been out of print for the last 50 years, that Bernie Wrightson-illustrated edition of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, or that signed copy of a book by a favourite author. You have a better chance of finding these rareties at a sci fi and fantasy bookstore, and so one that specialises in the speculative genre. But like many of the books it sells, this type of bookstore itself is rare. Credit: Pixabay.com Last time I said that there may not be a post for this Saturday due to posting this coming Wednesday for the Insecure Writer’s Support Group (IWSG). But when I heard about Independent Bookstore Day , I had to post at least a brief write-up about it. This special day, which occurs on the last Saturday in April, has been going on for five years. Yet as much as I’m a supporter of independent, locally owned bookstores, I only found out about it two days ago. So maybe not enough people are sharing about it on social media and/or maybe news media isn’t covering it enough. I can’t say for sure. What I can say for sure is that I felt compelled to do my part and share this special day with fellow avid readers and fellow writers who may be in the dark about Independent Bookstore Day like I had been.
