Can you believe we’ve arrived at another holiday season and the end of the year? It seems like each year goes by so fast! There are all kinds of great stuff to look forward to at this time of year: time with family and friends, good holiday food, gifts. But it's more about the giving than the getting. But the giving can really deplete your bank account, especially if you're like me and have a big family. Well, that's when you look towards the holiday sales. One of many of those is Smashwords' End of Year Book Sale in which my books are participating in! Want something chilling to read during this holiday season? You'll find mine and plenty of other authors' books of science fiction and horror at that sale! And if that's not enough, check out the list of links to holiday horror reading and viewing below!
Smashwords End of Year Sale

5 Links to Holiday Horror Reading and Viewing
Many don't think of this time of year as that of monsters and ghosts that creep throughout the cold, dark, December nights. However, because during this time the days continue to get shorter and the nights longer up until the Winter Solstice, it’s perfect for horror reading and viewing! It definitely was for many of Charles Dickens' readers of his classic novella, "A Christmas Carol", which featured Marley's chain rattling spirit and the Ghosts of Christmas. But that might be too typical for many readers today. (Myself, however, never tire of reading it and watching the movie adaptations each Christmas season). So, I thought it might be useful to put together references to recommendations for holiday horror reading and viewing of other books and films.
Speaking of Marley's chains, below are five links to past posts where I talk about stories and a few movies perfect for consuming during this ghoultide time of year! Just be aware that many of these posts may contain sections that refer to outdated events, including past years' Smashwords' End of Year Sales. So it’s best to go to the End of Year Sale using the links here in our current post instead of the ones in the past posts to avoid ending up at an expired page.
Now, here are the five links to posts that recommend chilling books and films perfect for this holiday season!
Krampus’s List of 6 Tales of Terror Toys, December 24, 2017
Book-To-Movie: ‘The Thing’, December 22, 2019
Book-To-Movie: Edgar Allen Poe's 'The Raven', December 18, 2021
5 Ghost Stories Perfect for the Holidays, December 18, 2023
Book Review of Marion Zimmer Bradley's 'Door Through Space', June 30, 2025
You've probably noticed that, out of all five listings, that last one is the only one that doesn't even date anywhere near December. I don't do Christmases in July (or, in this case, June), but I listed this link to this post from back in the summer because the book I review involves kids' toys that are really killer miniature robots! How would you like one of those under the tree?
'Bad Apps' Beta
I've delivered links to the beta version of my upcoming short story collection, "Bad Apps", to everyone who's volunteered to beta read so far. However, I'm still looking for more readers. If you're interested in volunteering, see the post from November 25 to find out how to sign up and what the rewards for beta reading are!
Upcoming Holiday Edition of 'Night Creatures' Call'
The holiday edition of my free author's newsletter, "Night Creatures' Call", will be releasing within the next week or so. So, look out for it in your in-boxes. If you’re not subscribed to "Night Creatures' Call", you can do so here. In this newsletter, you'll get the latest on my current writing projects and insights that you won't see here at A Far Out Fantastic Site.
This post will probably be the last for the year. Look out for the next post in January of the new year! Everyone have a Happy Holiday Season! Are you planning to shop for ebooks at Smashwords' End of Year Sale? Do you plan to watch or read any holiday horror movies or stories this season?
