Coming Soon: The Author’s Patreon Page!

It’s been a hard week, as fast as it went. Although it’s let up in the last couple of days, the smoke from the not too distant fires was so badly infesting my area that people were forced to leave work early, outdoor events have been getting canceled, and the blogger’s had a bad headache all week from breathing it in. I’m just grateful that those fires didn’t reach us but I feel bad for the people in the areas of our state that it did reach. I really hope these fires will be under control soon and that the firefighters will come out of it alive and unharmed. I can’t say enough how grateful I am for the huge risk that they take to protect everyone from these blazes. Yet, through all this apocalyptic chaos, I’ve been keeping myself busier than usual by creating a Patreon page.

This past week, I had been working on the “About” statement of my Patreon page. In this statement I introduce myself as an author of science fiction and horror and I list the benefits of becoming a Patreon member. Once this page is launched, which I hope will be in the next week or two at the most, you can purchase a membership that can give you access to

  • Short stories
  • Concept art for my book covers
  • Discounts on books
  • In-depth articles on both today’s and yesterday’s science fiction and fantasy!

These are just a some of the many groovy things you will be able to get as a Patreon member that you can’t get here or anywhere else!

Along with the About statement, I’ve uploaded three images so far: 1) one of the cover to my short story collection, “The Fool’s Illusion”; 2) another of the cover to my short story, “Circa Sixty Years Dead”; and 3) a photo of my dealer’s table at one of the Sac Cons in Sacramento.

There’s still a lot of work for me to do on my Patreon page but as soon as I launch it you will be one of the first to know. If you really want to be sure you’re one of the first then Like my Facebook page and visit it frequently where I will be posting about my Patreon page as well.

Join me here Wednesday evening for an Insecure Writer’s Support Group post!

Until then . . .

  1. Just keep working on it.
Sorry you are in an area with fires. Hopefully they do get them under control soon with no loss of life.
And you have outdoor events to cancel? Lucky - nothing is allowed here.

    1. Lucky? Outdoor events aren't much good when they get canceled! Lol although I see your point; my area's at least open to outdoor events even though there's possibility of cancelation. I don't go to many of the outdoor events though because I'm still trying to social distance because of the rise in Covid-19 cases in my area.

Book-To-Movie: Stephen King’s 'The Raft'

Credit: Pixabay.com It's the third Saturday of the month and so that means it's time for another Book-To-Movie ! In a Book-To-Movie we review a book and its movie adaptation. One of the reasons I as a horror fan don’t read a lot of Stephen King’s work is because most of it consists of novels that go more than 400 pages. I have a short attention span when it comes to reading, ironically since I consider myself an avid reader, and so I normally won’t read a work that is much more than the equivalent to a 350-page mass market paperback. The other reason why I don’t read a lot of King’s work is that, as literary scholars will tell you, a lot of his writing is poor. However, he does have some good writing in his works, especially his earlier stuff, including his short horror tales. So if I read anything by Stephen King it’s usually his short stories or novellas. One of his collections I’ve read is Skeleton Crew which includes some of his good, or at least...

Book-To-Movie: ‘The Hound of the Baskervilles’

Credit: Wikimedia Commons I apologise for posting outside our regular post-day which is late Saturday night/early Sunday morning. However, I got behind on several things last week and so had to postpone the post to today.  I’ve been a reader of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes books ever since I was 11. What I’ve always liked so much about the series is that, like a good horror story, the stories often take place in dark settings and involve bizarre cases. Conan Doyle’s novel, “The Hound of the Baskervilles”, definitely contains these elements. It’s a detective story that crosses over into the gothic horror genre. Several movie adaptations of the novel have been made that go as far back as a 1915 German silent film. In 1959 Hammer Studios released a version starring Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee. As much as I’m a fan of the Hammer horror films, I have not seen that one yet. The only one that I’ve seen so far is the 1939 adaptation starring that other big name in classic...

Credit: Tor Books The fourth weekend of the month, when we normally have our Book-To-Movie review has passed us again. However, the review is still on! This month I have a guest blogger for our Book-To-Movie review. The two of us agreed to trade our book-to-movie reviews and present them to you today, this last Monday of the month. Here at the Fantastic Site, he’s reviewing a best-selling novel of detective horror, "Relic", and its movie adaptation. In turn, at his site, I have the pleasure of reviewing "The Black Phone" short story by Joe Hill and its movie adaptation.
