Summer is already nearing its end. Typically the summer months are thought to be June through August but the season doesnāt officially end until around the 20th of September. Still, that will be here before we know it! So we should savor these last few weeks of the sunny skies before the dark months of autumn come. Yet, I look forward to it. So I thought Iād savor the summer moment by going over my current projects that Iām working on and look forward to the groovy moments of the fall by previewing whatās to come both in terms of my own writing and of movies. Particularly horror movies based on horror novels!
Current Writing Projects
As many of you may know, Iām mostly a short story writer and so rarely write long works. However, Iāve been working on a novella that I had written the first draft to about two years ago. And after seven months I just finished a first reading for revisions Thursday night! So Iām ready to go on to the second revisional stage where Iāll actually work in the revisions that I noted on the manuscript. One of the things I need to do for the novella is develop a video game. No, not an actual video game that you can play in real life but one that the characters in the story play. Sorry to disappoint you, gamers. The story is centred around a mass online role playing game (MORPG) that strange and horrifying events spring up from. However, Iām heeding the advice of a fellow member of my writerās critique group to make the game more convincing: Iām going to create rules and goals for the MORPG. Who knows, once my novella is released (which I do not have a release date for yet, not even an idea for one) and if it gets accepted well enough the video game may turn into a real one that you can actually play!
Upcoming Book Releases
Iām currently working on two book releases for the fall. One is a paperback edition of āThe Boo Brothersā and the other a new edition of The Foolās Illusion featuring a whole new cover! I released āThe Boo Brothersā during Halloween of last year in e-book form, and this year Iām planning to release it around Halloween in paperback. So if youāre like me and prefer print books over digital, youāll have an option to purchase the print edition! There may even be a giveaway!I donāt have a release date yet, but Iām trying to create a new edition of Foolās Illusion within the next month with a new cover, since September will mark my short fiction collectionās sixth anniversary. I should have come out with a new cover edition last year since that was the 5th anniversary of the book. But I forgot what no guy should ever forget when it comes to his and his wifeās wedding anniversary: I had forgotten Foolās Illusionās publication anniversary. So maybe Iāll double up on the bookās celebration this year. More on this in the weeks to come.
Upcoming Movies Based on Horror Novels
Two promising films are coming to theatres this fall, both that are based on horror novels by Stephen King! It Chapter Two releases September 6th. Yes, thatās still officially summer but itās the month fall falls in. So, many people would still call it a āfallā film. Especially the big movie distributors who package it. Letās just hope it wonāt turn out be a fallen film (in other words, a flop). The other movie is Doctor Sleep which releases November 8th. Itās based on Stephen Kingās sequel novel to his The Shining and so, in that way, is a sequel to the 1980 movie adaptation of that first book.
Even though summer may be ending soon, fall promises a lot of fun in the not so much sun! So, until then, try to enjoy the sunlight!
Until next time . . .
