Summer is already nearing its end. Typically the summer months are thought to be June through August but the season doesn’t officially end until around the 20th of September. Still, that will be here before we know it! So we should savor these last few weeks of the sunny skies before the dark months of autumn come. Yet, I look forward to it. So I thought I’d savor the summer moment by going over my current projects that I’m working on and look forward to the groovy moments of the fall by previewing what’s to come both in terms of my own writing and of movies. Particularly horror movies based on horror novels!
Current Writing Projects
As many of you may know, I’m mostly a short story writer and so rarely write long works. However, I’ve been working on a novella that I had written the first draft to about two years ago. And after seven months I just finished a first reading for revisions Thursday night! So I’m ready to go on to the second revisional stage where I’ll actually work in the revisions that I noted on the manuscript. One of the things I need to do for the novella is develop a video game. No, not an actual video game that you can play in real life but one that the characters in the story play. Sorry to disappoint you, gamers. The story is centred around a mass online role playing game (MORPG) that strange and horrifying events spring up from. However, I’m heeding the advice of a fellow member of my writer’s critique group to make the game more convincing: I’m going to create rules and goals for the MORPG. Who knows, once my novella is released (which I do not have a release date for yet, not even an idea for one) and if it gets accepted well enough the video game may turn into a real one that you can actually play!
Upcoming Book Releases
I’m currently working on two book releases for the fall. One is a paperback edition of “The Boo Brothers” and the other a new edition of The Fool’s Illusion featuring a whole new cover! I released “The Boo Brothers” during Halloween of last year in e-book form, and this year I’m planning to release it around Halloween in paperback. So if you’re like me and prefer print books over digital, you’ll have an option to purchase the print edition! There may even be a giveaway!I don’t have a release date yet, but I’m trying to create a new edition of Fool’s Illusion within the next month with a new cover, since September will mark my short fiction collection’s sixth anniversary. I should have come out with a new cover edition last year since that was the 5th anniversary of the book. But I forgot what no guy should ever forget when it comes to his and his wife’s wedding anniversary: I had forgotten Fool’s Illusion’s publication anniversary. So maybe I’ll double up on the book’s celebration this year. More on this in the weeks to come.
Upcoming Movies Based on Horror Novels
Two promising films are coming to theatres this fall, both that are based on horror novels by Stephen King! It Chapter Two releases September 6th. Yes, that’s still officially summer but it’s the month fall falls in. So, many people would still call it a “fall” film. Especially the big movie distributors who package it. Let’s just hope it won’t turn out be a fallen film (in other words, a flop). The other movie is Doctor Sleep which releases November 8th. It’s based on Stephen King’s sequel novel to his The Shining and so, in that way, is a sequel to the 1980 movie adaptation of that first book.
Even though summer may be ending soon, fall promises a lot of fun in the not so much sun! So, until then, try to enjoy the sunlight!
Until next time . . .
